Years of work in a spreadsheet should not be retyped. A CSV export and ten minutes of review moves the whole list, with values attached at the other end.
Get the spreadsheet into shape first
Importers match on column names, so give your columns plain headers in the first row: Title, Platform, Condition, Quantity, Notes. Extra columns are fine and get ignored; missing headers are what cause trouble. If your platform column uses your own shorthand ("SNES", "Super Nintendo", "SNS"), do not normalize it by hand; a good importer understands the common spellings. Just be consistent within the file.
Condition is worth a minute of cleanup. Whatever you wrote ("cib", "complete", "boxed with manual", "loose", "cart only") will usually be understood, but if half the column is blank, decide now whether blank means loose or unknown, and fill it.
Export a CSV
- Excel: File, Save As, choose "CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited)". UTF-8 matters for titles with accents.
- Google Sheets: File, Download, "Comma Separated Values (.csv)". Only the current sheet exports, so if you keep platforms on separate tabs, either merge them first or export each tab.
- Numbers: File, Export To, CSV.
Open the CSV in a text editor once. If you see your titles and commas between fields, it is right. If everything is on one line with semicolons, your locale exported with the wrong separator; re-export with comma or change the delimiter in the save dialog.
Import, then review the ones that did not match
The importer looks each title up against a game database, matched to the platform you gave it. Most rows land automatically. The ones that do not are almost always one of three things: a title typed from memory that differs from the box ("Zelda 2" versus "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link"), a platform the database calls something else, or a game that has several releases and needs you to pick one. Review those rows, pick the right match, and you are done.
Do not delete the spreadsheet afterwards. Keep it as your backup, and check that the app you moved to can export a CSV back out, so you are never locked in going the other way either.
